Elderly Home Workshop
Elderly Home Workshop - Turkish Mosaic Lamp Making | DIYLabs Ontario
DIYLabs brings the joy and calm of hands-on creative making directly to elderly homes and senior residences across Ontario. Our Turkish mosaic lamp workshop is thoughtfully adapted for older adults - a gentle, engaging, and socially enriching experience that gives participants something beautiful to create and a meaningful sense of achievement to carry with them.
Why Creative Workshops Matter for Seniors
Research consistently shows that creative activities support cognitive engagement, emotional wellbeing, and social connection in older adults. The focused, repetitive nature of mosaic making - selecting colours, placing tiles, building a pattern - provides gentle stimulation for fine motor skills and concentration. At the same time, the shared studio atmosphere encourages conversation, laughter, and a sense of community among participants.
Our workshops are not about producing perfect art. They are about the process - the pleasure of making something with your hands, the satisfaction of seeing a lamp take shape, and the warmth of doing it alongside others.
Adapted for Every Participant
Our instructors are experienced in working with older adults and participants with varying physical and cognitive needs. We adapt the pace, materials, and level of support to ensure every participant can engage fully and comfortably. Larger tiles, simplified assembly steps, and one-on-one guidance are all available as needed. No prior art experience is required - and no pressure to produce a particular result.
We Come to You
DIYLabs offers fully mobile workshop delivery for elderly homes and senior residences. We bring all materials, tools, and equipment to your facility - you simply provide the space and the participants. Our team handles setup, instruction, and cleanup, leaving your staff free to support residents as needed. Sessions typically run 1.5 to 2 hours and can be adjusted to suit your schedule and group size.
A Meaningful Activity for Special Occasions
Our elderly home workshops are a wonderful addition to seasonal celebrations, resident appreciation events, cultural programs, and therapeutic activity schedules. Each participant takes home a handcrafted mosaic lamp - a personal creation that can brighten their room and serve as a lasting reminder of a positive shared experience.
